Non-technical requirements for regular operation
In addition to the technical developments that make remote-controlled sailing possible, there are other requirements that must be met for regular operation. On the one hand, the shipmasters must be qualified for this new mode of operation and, on the other hand, the regulations must permit the approval and operation of remote-controlled ships.
With regard to qualification, training concepts are to be developed with which experienced shipmasters can be further qualified and which can also be used in initial training.
Based on the findings of the preceding technical work packages – above all from field testing – proposals will be drawn up for adapting the regulations concerned so that regular operation with remote-controlled ships becomes permissible.
